Prevention and Remedies for Colds and Flu

Realize that cold and flu germs only thrive in an acidic environment in the body. What makes us acidic? Alcohol, meat, processed foods, negative thinking, toxic emotions, caffeine, all junk foods.

What makes us alkaline? Fruits and juices, vegetables, positive thoughts and emotions, some seafoods, beans, nuts and seeds. A good balance of both acid-forming and alkaline-forming foods makes for good health and immune resistance to just about any potential invader.

One simple preventive is to squeeze the juice of one fresh lemon into a glass of filtered or spring warm water first thing in the morning. A teaspoon of baking soda in water also helps alkalize. Many vitamin companies offer alkalizing agents, and my favorite is www.cocoonnutrition.org.

What if you already got a cold or flu? Well, if you are in the first day, these can help knock it out:

1. When you wake up and feel you are coming down with something, squeeze the juice of two fresh lemons into a quart of orange juice (of course, fresh squeezed is nice, but a brand with no sugar will do). Sip on this, taking an hour to drink it all, on an empty stomach.

OR

2. When you first feel you are coming down with something, take two capsules of cayenne powder with a large glass of pure water. This will flush your arteries and kill the virus.

OR

3. Take a teaspoon of vitamin C powder (about 10,000 mg). It may send you to the bathroom, but it will flush out the invader.

If a cold or flu has already taken hold, the above may help lessen the length of time it takes to run its course.

Another major contributor to autumn colds and flu is the air ducts in your home. Every fall, when the house heat came on, my parents would get something. When they finally agreed to have their ductwork cleaned out (Sears does it, so do other companies) a few years back, they have not once gotten a fall cold or flu since. The ducts had never been cleaned since the house was built in the '40s. There was over an inch thick of black soot coating the ducts -- an effective breeding ground for every year's germs that got recirculated when the heat came up.

Prevention is the best, though, and a healthy immune system is guaranteed by a healthy outlook on life.
