Of all the home remedies for self-healing that I’ve posted on my web site, Oil Pulling is the one I am most excited about. Why? Because it is EASY, INEXPENSIVE, and HIGHLY EFFECTIVE for so many conditions. Let’s get right into it here and, at the end of the steps, you can read more details about it, along with important information, so PLEASE read the whole article... What is Oil Pulling? This simple procedure of slowly swishing oil around in your mouth heals the body of an amazing number of ailments and disorders by detoxifying the salivary and oral tissues. It is an Ayurvedic – i.e., from ancient Eastern medicine – practice that has been known to heal Acid reflux Allergies Arthritis Asthma AIDS Blood diseases Bronchitis Cancers Chemical toxicities Chronic infections Constipation Cracked heels Diabetes Eczema Encephalitis Endocrine disorders Eye disorders Fibromyalgia Gum diseases Headaches Heart disorders High blood pressure High blood sugar Hormonal imbalances (male and female) Insomnia Intestinal disorders Kidney diseases Leukemia Liver diseases Loss of sense of smell Loss of sense of taste Lung diseases Malignant tumors Meningitis Mental/memory dysfunctions Metabolic disorders Migraine Mouth diseases Nerve disorders Neuro-muscular diseases Paralysis Polio Stiff aching joints Stomach problems Thrombosis Tooth discoloration Ulcers Varicose veins The list goes on, but you get the point and now here’s how you do it. Print out and follow the directions CAREFULLY: 1. First thing in the morning, before eating or drinking, put ONE TABLESPOON of refined SESAME or SUNFLOWER oil in your mouth. (For children or those with a small mouth, a bit less is more comfortable. And don't bother to buy the expensive organic stuff. The supermarket variety works just fine.) 2. Set a timer for 10 minutes, even 5 at first. Later you can increase to 15-20 minutes as you get more comfortable with the slow pulling 3. Slowly swish, suck and pull the oil through your teeth in the front, in the back, top and bottom, from side to side. I like to check my email or do some chore around the house to keep me occupied during this time. 4. DO NOT GARGLE the oil. 5. DO NOT SWALLOW the oil at any time. 6. When the timer goes off, spit into the toilet. Not the sink. See below for why. 7. Immediately rinse your mouth out SEVERAL TIMES and vigorously with warm water, gargling a few times to rinse the back of your mouth out as well, and spitting into the toilet also. Then flush it. You definitely want to brush your teeth now. 8. Drink 1 or 2 glasses of filtered or spring water. That’s basically it, so get started. The rest of this article talks about why the various steps are important and how Oil Pulling actually works and what to watch out for. 1. You need an empty stomach for this to work, so that’s why it is suggested you do it first thing in the morning. You can use a brush with no toothpaste on it at this point just to clear the surface of the teeth for better whitening effect and also to leech any stray mercury in the teeth. For chronic or more serious conditions, you will want to Oil Pull two or three times a day. So, just make sure you have not eaten for about 3-4 hours and not had anything to drink for 1 hour. This ensures that the lining of your mouth is free of food/beverage particles and also that you will not vomit. Oil Pulling more than once a day helps you detox faster. 2. Oil Pull for at least 5-10 minutes. 15 to 20 is better and gets a more thorough result. The point is that what you spit out should be white and foamy, not yellow like the oil. If yellow, you’ve not done it long enough (although there may be times when you feel you just have to spit it out -- that’s ok once in a while). 3. As you pull the oil through your teeth, make sure you get the gums and molars in the back of your mouth as well as the back of your tongue. The tongue has reflex points to every organ of the body, so this is one of the ways that Oil Pulling helps clear out the whole system. 4. Don’t gargle the oil, as it may cause a swallow reflex. 5. You don’t want to swallow this stuff. It is filled with parasites, viruses and “bacteria embryos” which can be seen at 600 magnification as writhing organisms. This stuff is poisonous and can make you sick. It’s why you already ARE sick or have some health problem or other. (One of our users reported that he "saved" the spit and an hour later saw the stuff writhing in the cup with the naked eye. This is not for the faint-hearted.) If you feel you must swallow, this helps stop it: clear your throat. This action reverses the swallow impulse. 6. If you spit into the sink instead of the toilet, you will want to rinse the sink with bleach to kill the bacteria that would otherwise multiply there. Yuck. 7. I rinse my mouth at least 6, 7, 8 times to get any remaining bacteria out and do it vigorously, as well as gargle a few times. 8. After 1 or 2 glasses of water, then you can have breakfast or finish whatever your morning routine is. You can buy the sesame or sunflower oil at your local supermarket or cold-pressed from the health food store. A few people have reported that sesame tastes better than sunflower. Others feel that sesame is slimier and makes them gag. Different strokes. I like the sunflower myself and am on my second bottle. The early signs of health improvement are whiter, shinier teeth; feeling refreshed and relaxed when waking up; balanced appetite and better eliminations; deeper sleep; disappearing pouches/dark circles below the eyes; more energy and stronger immune function throughout the day. Acute ailments, like a strep throat, bronchitis, sinus, sore gums and teeth, or flu, will clear within a day or two or three just with Oil Pulling. Chronic conditions may take weeks, even months or a year to clear completely from the body. How does Oil Pulling heal the body? In Ayurvedic medicine, the practice of Oil Pulling aims at purifying the taste buds. This is a sensory system that relies on balancing the 6 tastes in your diet to keep the whole body in a state of health and balance. But additionally, the tongue is like the hand, foot, eye or ear in Eastern medicine – that is, it is a map of the body in miniature, containing reflex points to organs throughout the entire system – the spleen, heart, liver, colon, spine, etc. Therefore, detoxifying the tongue has a reflex soothing and purifying action on all the organs connected to it by meridians and reflex points. The tongue becomes supple and the lubrication from the oil prevents dryness, which we might think of as an aging of tissue. In modern terms, dryness of tissue is seen as a sign of nutritional depletion which oil can remedy, along with the antioxidant values these oils possess. As the oil pulls the saliva from the mucous membranes in the mouth, it also pulls excess mucous, bacteria and toxins out into the spit. These would otherwise continue to circulate throughout the body, enabling both the degeneration of organs and systems and the progression of disease states and aging. For this reason, Oil Pulling can be seen as one of the most vital practices to adopt for not only cure but also prevention. ***What happens if you get sick or your condition worsens during the Oil Pulling detox period?*** If you pick up a cold or flu or some other problem during your Oil Pulling days, KEEP AT IT. The Oil Pulling will help you get through it faster. This happened to me – I came down with a bad strep throat one morning after about a week of Oil Pulling. So I increased to twice a day from the morning routine I was doing. Strep in the past has taken me a week to 10 days to run through with or without medication, but it was gone on the third morning just from Oil Pulling! Then I realized that this was probably not a “new” attack but most likely the remnants of all the other times I’d had strep throat going back to childhood. The Oil Pulling was in fact “bringing up the old, incompletely healed stuff” for a final healing. I say "final" because I used to always wake up in the morning with a mildly scratchy sore throat which I now do not experience now at all, thank God. So I believe this chronic condition is finally gone from my body. In homeopathic terms,"getting worse before it gets better" is called a “healing crisis,” where the disease seems to recur or worsen during treatment. No one likes this, but in fact it is a positive effort by the body to mobilize a stronger healing response. Ayurvedic physician Dr. Karach says, “Do not stop when your state gets worse. There is no reason to interrupt the treatment even when the body temperature gets higher. It is a healing temperature, ... a worsening of your health state is a sign that your disease is disappearing.” And rest assured that this apparent “worsening” is very temporary. Continue with the Oil Pulling and making progress on your health concern. Don’t give up, in fact, do it more each day and watch the condition clear out finally and permanently. Other positive results I noticed within the first couple of weeks of Oil Pulling include: decreased tooth sensitivity, better sleep, regular eliminations (I’d been skipping a day about once a week before this), whitening of a dark spot in back of a tooth at the site of a root canal, shinier and whiter teeth, less fuzzy coating on my tongue, lightening of dark circles under my eyes, sharper vision with better color appreciation, weight loss. I feel it will eventually rid my body of tinnitus and heal some of the cracks in my tongue which are warning signs of organ stresses. I don't think it will align my vertebrae or heal everything, but I intend to continue Oil Pulling for as long as I need to to get results and restore/preserve my health. I hope you do, too. This is the most amazing health tool I’ve ever come across in over 30 years studying holistic and alternative techniques. Go for it! To Your Health! It's poisonous, so never swallow it, he warns. These poisons are bacteria-embryos, which, if not eliminated, cause diseases. Apparently, Dr Karsch cured his own chronic blood disease and 15-year-old arthritis. The first sign of improvement is in the teeth-they become firm and white, he says. Other healing indications: fresh, relaxed feeling on waking up, disappearing dark pouches below the eyes, anew appetite and energy, better memory and deep sleep. Dr Karsch swears by the mouth oil-wash for anything from organ-disorders, skin-diseases, menstrual problems, paralysis to every ache and it is in the human anatomy. You can gargle even when you have fever, he says, adding, it takes anything from two days to a year to cure a disease. And if these claims sound exaggerated, he told a conference of Ukrainian cancer specialists, try out the process yourself. Interestingly, Ayurveda advises oil gargling "to purify the taste-buds and the entire system", as explained by Dr Deepak Chopra in Perfect Health. According to this life science, the tongue is mapped by organ-locations — that is, each section of the tongue is connected to the kidneys, lungs, spleen, liver, heart, pancreas, small intestines, stomach, colon, and spine. Thus, an oil-mouth-massage soothes and stimulates the key meridians where taste meets organ. Simultaneously, as in any skin-massage, the inner skin and lining of the mouth, palate and tongue become warm and supple and the lubrication prevents dryness (the vatic effect). In modern dietetics too, dryness is discussed. For example, lack of Vitamin A (retinal) causes the outer lining of the eyeball to dry and wrinkle, and affects vision. And as any dietician would tell you, all oils contain 960 micrograms of vitamin A per 10 gm (the recommended daily allowance of vitamin A per adult is 600 micrograms). So, it's possible that oil gargling helps in reaching the required retinal to the eyeballs and keeps them elastic and smooth. Likewise, the Ayurvedic `purification of taste-buds' also has its equivalent in dietetics as `antioxidants'. Oxidation literally means `the putrefaction of body-tissues'. And oil-soluble vitamins, A, C, D, and E are antioxidants that protect and prevent the decaying process and help maintain the integral functioning of cell membranes. That's why, many people are ingesting vitamin E pills to stem `aging' (oxidation). It seems Dr. Karsch used it as well. I have never heard or used the word "gargle" unless it meant using the throat, so it is a tad misleading for the unsuspecting or the casual reader. Perhaps the alert could be placed at the beginning of the article to clarify the usage of the word and for safety's sake. Thank you for your time." Earth Clinic note: Laura is referring to the article posted above by Bharat Savur. OIL PULLING INSTRUCTIONS: NOTE: These are instructions from India in which only 3 types of oil can be used. However, as you will read below in our Reader Feedback section, people are experimenting with different oils, adding anti-bacterial and anti-viral oil essences. Soon we might have a purist vs. renegade oil pulling battle! INSTRUCTIONS: First thing in the morning, before brushing your teeth, eating or drinking, take 1 TBSP of either sesame or sunflower oil. Put the oil in your mouth, tilt your chin up and slowly swish, suck, chomp and pull through the teeth. Do this for at least 10 minutes. 15 - 20 minutes is better. You want the oil to become a thin, white foam when you finally spit it out. If it's still yellow, you haven't done it long enough. You can do this 2 more times during the day if you want to detox faster. Make sure you do it on an empty stomach, however. Spit it out in the toilet when your mouth is full and rinse your mouth out well. Follow with 2 - 3 glasses of water. DO NOT SWALLOW THE OIL! It now contains parasites and bacteria! DO NOT GARGLE IN THE THROAT! DO IT SLOWLY! HOW IT WORKS: The oil pulls all mucous, bacteria and toxins from your body through your saliva. According to Ayurvedic medicine, mucous is a poison that must be removed. Note #1: Keeping the chin tilted up makes sure the oil gets to the back molars. Note #2: Only sesame and sunflower oils produce favorable results. Note #3: If after meals, wait at least 4 hours before you Oil Pull. After drinking, wait 1 hour. Note #4: A worsening of symptoms is an excellent indication that the disease/ailment is being cured. Note #5: Do not stop Oil Pulling if you feel aggravated symptoms or heightened side effects. Your body is healing. I also have my husband swishing and a few friends and we are excited and waiting for results to report back. I love your website and find the information most informative and hopeful." 11/29/2006: Mariana from Richmond, California writes, "oil pulling with sesame oil has so far cured my diarrhea and insomia. My teeth are whiter. I am amazed that i have not gotten a cold or the flu this year. i was wondering if this also cures epilepsy?" 11/27/2006: Jackie from Sioux Falls, SD writes, "'I have been oil pulling for about a month now. I was noticing signs that my gums were receeding. My gums have actually stopped receeding and my dentist told me that my gums have never looked healthier. I no longer have any bleeding of my gums when I brush my teeth. My teeth are noticabley whiter " 11/14/2006: Valerie from Germantown, MD writes, "I have an infection in my tooth that is so bad that came back in 3 days after a 10 day dose of penacillion. Peroxide stopped working after a while. sunflower oil is the only thing that keeps it under control. If I skip a few days it will come back but when I start back up it goes away but I have no bad side effects. It has only been 3 months and my teeth are very white. I am hoping that by the time I reach my 6 month mark that my heels will be better also." POTENTIAL CURE FOR ASTHMA ATTACKS: OIL PULLING 11/6/2006: Shakti from Chicago, IL writes, "Please post this where asthma sufferers can view it, this is important because I had a hard time finding a cure for asthma on your site but thank God I did. I began a regimen of oil pulling shortly after a lingering cold went to my lungs, I just couldn't get rid of the mucus. I prayed for relief. It got even worse after a chemical pesticide was sprayed in my home for pest control. The next day after the extermination I had the worst attack of my life, I couldn't stand it anymore, so after 10 years of not having to put any poison into my lungs I had to once again use an inhaler to control the attacks. After the second night of waking up feeling side effects of nervousness anxiety and panic I decided enough was enough. I went to the computer in the middle of the night and began hours of research to find a natural cure. That's how I found this miracle of a web site. The next day I went out a purchased some sesame oil and took one table spoon 3x a day at the onset of my asthma attack and Immediately after the very first dose the mucus expelled out of my longs, and within 10 minutes what had plagued me for over 10 years was no more. Since then If I have any tightening in my chest or shortness of breath I IMMEDIATELY do the oil pulling and the problem subsides in 10 minutes or less. ~~~Oh I'd be remiss if I did not mention the side effect, I took oil pulling for Bronchial Asthma but as a result I got a dazzling white smile, sinus relief, not to mention it remarkably helped to subside my symptoms PMS all unexpected but welcomed side effects. Thank you from the bottom of my heart! P.S. thanks my husband thanks you too, lol." 11/3/2006: Mary from Brooklyn, NY writes, "I could not do the swishing for more than a minute or so the first time and tried it again a few minutes later. I just could not do it. The next day I tried again, with only one teaspoon, and again could only do it for a minute or so. I skipped a day and then tried again but to no avail. I am not a squeamish person and can do just about anything, but I was so afraid of swallowing this stuff. I did get very sick all that day and night with pains in my stomach, with a lot of gauging and then vomiting two globs of mucous. I had printed out the oil pulling and gave it to a friend. She said that she would not be able to do this because she has to take antibotics before having any dental work and that bacteria attacks the lining of the heart. This made me a little nervous about doing this and I would like your feedback. I did not read anything negative on the feedback and an wondering why? If I could not do it, there must be others? Thank you." Ted replies: "Dear Mary: Of course there is and always will be a negative feedback from pretty much any remedy! People in general do not post feedback as much as they should. I basically have two kinds of feedback, those with real problems and those who post false information. Don't worry, I can tell which is which! I did get very sick all that day and night with pains in my stomach, with a lot of gauging and then vomiting two globs of mucous. This is a common herx effect. Whenever the pathogen dies off, it releases a toxin. Normally the herx effect lasts about 3 days. If you want to minimize the herx effect there are several steps you should take. First, after the swishing, prepare a warm water and add a couple of drops of peppermint oil. The peppermint oil, the worse it taste (too hot or too cold) the more you need it. Use this as a mouthwash and do it a couple of times. Most of the toxins should be neutralized. Second, just drink strong cup of tea unsugared with a couple of drops peppermint oil in it. Always start with one drop. A green tea might be better as it might have more tannins. Tannins are basically an interesting chemical that I love to play with. Basically, it has a tendency to react with any foreign toxins and proteins neutralizing them and it becomes benign. Peppermint contains menthol, and chemically it is unusual in its own right in reacting with certain bacterial and viral toxins along the way neutralizing them too. This should stop the herx reaction pretty quick. But the speed will vary since everyone's body chemistry are different. Personally I would much prefer to use pure tannic acid and menthol crystals, but they are much harder to measure and use for most people. So I will keep this remedy simple. she would not be able to do this because she has to take antibotics before having any dental work and that bacteria attacks the lining of the heart. Antibiotics alone have a tendency to create toxins primarily causing yeast infection or candida afterwards. In that case oil pulling would not be the way to go, as the body is overburdened with heavy metal and bacteria which could cause a stronger herx reaction. As a result, eating chinese parsley (cilantro) for about a week would be the preferred way to reduce the heavy metal burden. Take it one week, do nothing the second week, and continue on the third week. To reduce the possible yeast built up besides the chinese parsley, taking some tea with one drop of rosemary oil or peppermint oil in a strong cup of unsugared green tea would do. Most tannins are good in that it does not increase the iron burden to the body, especially if they are not black in color, but will reduce the iron burden. This is good since the major source of food for most fungus, bacteria and candida is the iron that they create by creating an enzyme hemolysis which kills the red blood cell creating an anemia, but yet overburden the body with iron. Just reduce taking sugar should help a lot. If oil pulling is not your cup of tea, you can modify the oil, by adding one drop of peppermint oil to the sunflower oil or olive oil, to detox the the toxins instead of just keeping it in the oil, the toxins will also get neutralized too. There are many variations I have devised over the course of time doing this, such as rosemary oil, eucalyptus oil, rose oil, etc. but peppermint oil is readily available. And for most people anyway, they are likely to get used to the peppermint already in used with most commercial toothpastes in the market at least for a century. Ted" 10/13/2006: Kendra from Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada writes, "I have been doing this procedure, oil pulling for two days. So far so good. However, I'm curious about a few things.... Why are we instructed to swish SLOWLY (what if we swished fast)? Why do we have to wait 4hours after eating or 1hours after drinking before we can do an oil pulling (and what if we didn't)? " Earth Clinic responds: Good question! Anyone? Well, a friend reported that after she swished intensely and quickly for 10 minutes, her PMS (at that moment, rage) abated. Perhaps more experimentation needs to be done on this technique. 10/13/2006: Bev writes, "I learned of Oil Pulling several months ago. Immediately my teeth became whiter. My mouth and teeth feel amazingly clean. My receding gums have started growing back and my teeth feel tighter or more secure. I have found switching back and fourth between different oils keeps my teeth their whitest. Sesame oil is my favorite. Olive oil gives the most dramatic results. I have also used Coconut oil. This is so easy and inexpensive! I plan to OP for life." 9/29/2006: Tricia from Astoria, NY writes, "I have been pulling since july 06 with sesame and safflower oils. I just love the sesame because it tastes like halvah to me. My skin on the top of my right foot was covered with eczema and it was itchy and inflamed constantly. It is still discoloured from all the abuse it received from me. The wonderful result though is the inflamation has subsided. I am noticing new skin growing back slowly. It is thrilling to know that this harmless protocol is helping this painful debilitating disease that orthodox meds cannot heal. Peace and Health to all." 9/25/2006: Sue from New Zealand writes, "Wow! Have only done this twice so far. I only did it to help support my husband who has been suffering from recurring boils in his ears. I said I would do this if he would. I didn't actually have a major problem with my nose. An annoying drip at times and as there is a lot of pollen around at present it has been a little clogged but nothing serious or even annoying. This morning I had to spit the oil out & start again as there was so much mucus draining down the back of my throat from my nose I was almost sick from the tickling & not swallowing. After using the salt/soda water up the nostrils, my nose is much clearer. The mucus from one side was quite yellow. I can breathe easily and have no drip. My husband's boil burst of its own accord with less pain than previous boils. The worst experiene he had was with one in his finger and one underhis arm at the same time. He had antibiotics. It took a long time to clear and he has had several in his ears since then so we have decided to give this a go & see if it clears the toxins out faster and with less pain. He also took turmeric in warm water and this relieved the pain almost immediately. I'll let you know if the boils disappear completely." 9/24/2006: Margaret from Florida writes, "I used coconut oil for oil pulling. My teeth are whiter. I find the info on this site to be the best. Thanks" 9/21/2006: Janette from St. Petersburg, FL writes, "i used sesame oil to relieve tooth pain until i could get to the dentist. i did it twice. it did seem to make the pain less painful, however, i don't think i will ever be able to eat sesame seeds again... it was hard to keep the oil in my mouth for 15-20 minutes, but when the pain is that bad, you will try anything." 9/20/2006: Liliane from Quebec, Canada writes, "I used sunflower oil for oil pulling. Believe it or not, this morning, I did it for the first time, after having problem with bronchitis and bronchiectasies, and coughing every day plus full of yellow and green mucus. Well, since this morning, nothing, no coughing and mucus. I am ready for my 2e oil pulling right now before supper, cross my fingers so that it cure me after 14 years of health problems and a lots of antibiotic, months and months. I will give you feedback later on, I promise. One more thing, I did throw it in the toilet, but too greasy, so I will spit it out in a plastic bag full of paper, and throw it away. When the oil is in the toilet, it can eventually block. Merci.' 9/18/2006: T. writes, "I have used this for years and have given it to many people. I used it for arthritis which has never returned as I used this method regularly. I have seen it cure snoring and many sinus issues. I have a friend who worked in a copper smelter and has emphesema and he swears by it. When I am exposed to pesticides and toxins or am experiencing die off from clenses I use this treatment. I am worried however that there is no information listed in your swish about toxins in the mouth after and the need to brush and gargle as well as snorting with baking soda and salt in warm water after so I am including the email I received years ago with the instructions I have as I would hate anyone to get sick or CA of the mouth due to not cleaning out the toxins right after swishing. Oil swish for getting rid of toxins When I first learned of this, I did it several times a day. Now, I just do it when I feel something coming on, nip it in the bud that way. I probably should do it every day. I got this back in 1992 in a handout a friend of mine brought back from Germany. She got it from a Yoga teacher there. I copied it. All I can do is give you the information I have. It says it was taken from an article that was published in a German magazine, Fortschritt fur alle (Progress for All). I have never researched it out any further than what I am giving to you, because I personally followed the instructions that follow and I KNOW that it WORKS for me. So, I don't feel the need to get validity from outside sources. You have to decide for yourself. By the way, the testimonies are not mine; they were on the handout too. If I were to write one, it would be very similar to testimony # five. Folk Remedy Oil Therapy According to Dr. Karach F. Karach, M.D., presented a paper before the All-Ukrainian Association. The meeting was attended by oncologists and bacteriologists belonging to that Academy of Science of the USSR. Dr. Karach explained an unusual simple healing process using cold- pressed oils. The results of this therapy invoked astonishment and doubt concerning the contents of his report. However, after further examining the workings of the oil therapy, one has but to then test it on oneself to prove its validity and effectiveness. It is most astonishing that such results can be affected with this absolutely harmless biological healing method. This simple method makes it possible to effectively treat the most varied diseases, in some cases enabling one to avoid surgical intervention and the taking of medications that can have harmful side effects. The exciting factor of this healing method is its simplicity. It consists of swishing cold-pressed vegetable oil in the mouth. The healing process is accomplished by the human organism on its own. In this way it is possible to heal cells, tissue and all organs simultaneously; the body rids itself of toxic waste without disturbing the healthy microflora. Dr. Karach says human beings are living only half their life span. They could potentially live to be 140 to 150 years old. He claims that the following illnesses can be effectively healed with the application of oil therapy: headaches, bronchitis, lung and liver conditions, toothache, thrombosis, blood diseases, arthrosis, paralysis, eczema, gastric ulcers, intestinal disorders, heart and kidney ailments, encephalitis, nervous conditions and female disorders. The oil therapy is preventative as well as curative. Dr. Karach says: "With the oil therapy, I healed my chronic blood disease of fifteen years. With the use of this therapy, I was healed within three days of an acute arthrosis that had forced me to lie in bed." If you can get it, the best oil to use is Hain Sunflower Oil or Spectrum Natural Peanut Oil. In the morning before breakfast on an empty stomach you take one tablespoon in the mouth but do not swallow it. The oil is slowly swished in the mouth and drawn through the teeth for fifteen to twenty minutes. It is thoroughly chewed and mixed with saliva as it is done in the Mayr cure. Chewing activates the enzymes and the enzymes draw toxins out of the blood. thus, the oil must not be swallowed, for it has become toxic. As the chewing process continues, the oil gets thinner and white. It is then spit from the mouth into the toilet bowl. If the oil is still yellow, it has not been masticated thoroughly or long enough. After the oil has been removed from the mouth, the oral cavity must be thoroughly rinsed several times. It is preferable to use a cup of pure warm water to which has been added one-half teaspoon of salt and on-half teaspoon of baking soda. The teeth, gums and tongue must be brushed carefully. It is recommended that salt and soda be applied directly to the brush. After rinsing, gargle with the warm salt-soda water. You can add cooler water to what remains in the cup, thereby diluting its strength. Then tip the cup under the nose and gently sniff up the water to clean the nasal passages. Gently blow the nos. The sink must be cleaned because the spittle contains harmful bacteria and toxic bodily waste. If one were to see one drop of this liquid magnified 600 times under a microscope, one would see microbes in their first stage of development. It is important to understand that during the oil-swishing process one's metabolism is intensified. This leads to improved health. One of the most striking results of this process is the fastening of loose teeth, the elimination of bleeding gums and the visible whitening of the teeth. The oil swishing is done best before breakfast. To accelerate the healing process, it can be repeated three times a day, but always before meals on an empty stomach. The therapy is not harmful if it is repeated several times a day. Repetition hastens the healing process and renders it more effective. How long? This therapy should be repeated until one has returned to his original vitality and his sleep has been returned to a peaceful state. One who practices this therapy faithfully will awaken refreshed in the morning with no bags under the eyes. Normal appetite and improved memory are additional benefits. Healing symptoms: Patients who suffer from chronic conditions may appear to get worse in the beginning. Dr. Karach emphasizes that a worsening of your condition may be a sign that the disease is in the healing process. It may even happen that your temperature increases. A word of caution: Whereas the oil therapy can be very helpful to people, it is not a substitute for ongoing care by a qualified health practitioner. Any serious symptoms that develop during the course of this treatment should be reported to your doctor to determine whether they are due to the healing process or to a worsening of your condition, which may require immediate medical treatment. How often? Questions as to the repetition and duration of therapy can only be answered on an individual basis. Acute conditions oftentimes improve quickly, within two to three days. Chronic conditions usually need longer therapy, sometimes up to a year. Never give up!!! Testimony 1 For fifteen months I had been having pain in my liver. It seemed to become more intense and frequent as the weeks went on. I had tried all the different remedies I knew - special teas, vitamins. Swedish Bitters, ginger compresses, and so on--but the pain did not go away. After I prayed to Mother Mary for help regarding this problem, a friend handed me a piece of paper describing an oil therapy from Dr. F. Karach. I decided to try it since nothing else had worked for me thus far. Each morning before breakfast, I took one tablespoon of sunflower oil and slowly swished it in my mouth for fifteen to twenty minutes. I repeated the procedure each night before going to bed. After spitting out the oil, I found it helpful to use my Water Pik to thoroughly cleanse the tongue and gums. Three days after I had started the treatment, the pain disappeared completely! One week when I was extremely busy, I could only do the treatment in the morning and not at night. During that time, I noticed the recurrence of a slight pain in my liver, which disappeared again when I resumed the practice twice a day. I have now been using the treatment regularly for 1 1/2 to 2 months. I am very grateful to Mother Mary for making me aware of this therapy and hope that it will be helpful to all of you in treating whatever health problems you might have. Testimony 2 I had been on chemotherapy for a whole year, which had left me weak and tired and very depleted. In October 1991, I started the oil treatment and noticed an immediate improvement in how I felt. My energy began to return and I was able to go back to work full-time plus overtime. I do not have a strong immune system and I feel this treatment is helping me in that area, even though I usually only have time to use the treatment once a day. Everyone around me has been coming down with the flu, but I have not had it. My housemate has tried the treatment, too. Every time she feels a sore throat coming on, she swishes the cold-pressed oil in her mouth and the sore throat disappears! Testimony 3 I want to tell you about my exciting experience in using Dr. Karach's oil therapy. About forty-five years ago, I tested oil products in a laboratory for the Esso Standard Oil Company. Recently, I had a doctor test me for any residue that might be remaining in my body from this type of work. Since the tests indicated that I had a considerable amount of the residue in my body, he recommended that I take a supplement to remove it. I ordered the supplement but, interestingly, the order was lost. In the meantime, I learned of the oil therapy. So, I tried it for about a week (one to two times a day). Before reordering my supplement, I thought I should have my doctor test me again. Miraculously, he said, "There's not a trace of the residue left in you. It's all gone!" To say the least, I was thrilled! I have continued to use the oil therapy for its many other benefits, and as a preventative as well as a curative. I have noticed that I have not had any colds or coughs, unlike so many others around me. Testimony 4 I started the oil therapy one night when my teeth and upper and lower jaws were extremely sore--so much so that I feared my teeth were shifting and that I might have to have an extraction. I actually thought I might have to go to an oral surgeon. I followed the instructions and repeated the therapy the next morning and next night. When I awoke the following day, my teeth and jaws were very comfortable and the soreness never returned. Testimony 5: The idea of a simple, inexpensive, effective health therapy has always captured my interest. When I learned of the oil therapy, I started swishing immediately, experimenting with different oils. I had been to the dentist for a checkup after five years. Although I didn't have any cavities, I had serious deterioration in my gums. I had tried the usual remedies of baking soda and sea salt. My gums would improve somewhat but the condition would never clear up completely. For years I have also had postnasal drip and a film on my teeth in the morning as well as a heavy feeling in my mouth. Severe colds, flu and bronchitis have been a yearly experience. In general, I have had a difficult health history but have been on a good diet and work constantly on my health. I don't do things half way, so I enthusiastically started the oil- swishing therapy three times a day. In the evening, I would often swish for twenty minutes and follow up with an additional twenty minutes while reading or exercising. To my great joy, I immediately began to experience a clean feeling in my mouth each morning. My teeth felt like velvet and have become whiter. The gum condition cleared up in seven days! During the swishing, I experience mush drainage from my sinuses. I have slept more soundly than I have in years. j I have noticed little troubles clear up and my energy has been good. It takes concentration to keep the oil moving in the mouth, but this is necessary because the action of chewing and swishing activates the microorganisms out of the bloodstream into the saliva. The scarping of the tongue with a spoon is something I have practiced for years. I feel it is an important part of the cleansing of the mouth from bacteria. I am delighted with the therapy and looking forward to further changes in my body. Testimony 6 I learned about the oil therapy from a friend. It made sense and seemed simple and inexpensive, so I immediately decided to give it a try. I have been doing this therapy twice a day for about two months now. I feel it is one of the main reasons I have escaped getting the flu while so many others around me have been sick, including my husband. I think it is also quite effective in clearing toxins and purifying the blood. I have observed that a blood condition that had been making me very tired and keeping me awake at night has improved a great deal. I certainly intend to continue doing the oil therapy on a long term basis. I have little to lose and, I think, lots to gain! Testimony 7 I must admit that I was a bit skeptical upon hearing about the oil swishing treatment. But it sounded so simple, and the possibility of improving my health stimulated my desire to try it for a while. After using this treatment for the last two months, I can truly say that I feel stronger and less vulnerable to the latest illness going around the neighborhood. I have also noticed that my digestion has improved. I can eat less and yet not feel famished before my next meal. It's a great little remedy." 9/19/2006: Tamara writes again: "This follows the last email that I wrote. I use mostly cold pressed olive oil but I have seen people who can't stand the oil in their mouths use pure water and it turns white as well. I don't have scientific reasearch to back it up but any oil I have used works for me. One other caution is that if someone is really toxic, five min can be enough or the toxins will burn the mouth. Once I forgot and swished for about 40 min and ended up with mouth sores for about a week as the toxins burned my mouth. I now set a timer that I carry around with me as to not go over twenty min." 9/15/2006: Stacey writes, "I found that my tongue felt amazing after the first time. It was pink and CLEAN. no matter how much I scrub with my toothbrush my tongue never seems to feel that clean. As well I found that the skin on my face was softer and smoother, my pores were smaller. I was afraid that I would breakout in "Adult acne" but i didn't!!!!! As far as all my other ailments, the jury is still out. Stacey" 9/15/2006: Pavithra from Hyderabad, India writes, "Oil pulling made my skin smooth." 9/13/2006: David from Phoenix, AZ writes, "Oil pulling cured Brain Fog, Produced Whiter Teeth, Face used to be wrinkled around eyes but now amazingly smooth. I use expeller pressed organic virgin olive oil. I do a series of 3 flushes in the morning lasting seven minutes each and repeat the process just before bedtime. I have read reports that the mouth starts to re-absorb the very toxic used oil when prolonging (the oil pull) with the first tbs of oil for 15-20 minutes. Take the extra effort and expense and at least renew oil at the halfway point. I'm hooked for life. Combine this with an epsom/ olive oil liver flush for even better results. I removed over 2,500 bilium stones. (Confirmed by a lab)" 9/4/2006: Annie from Stafford, VA writes, "I thought I'd post a comment after my first day's experience with oil pulling, for all of you fellow novices out there who are thinking about trying it. I used sesame oil because I couldn't find sunflower oil (which I had decided, before going shopping for oil, that I'd probably prefer). I was afraid that the taste of ANY of the oils would make me want to gag, but it didn't -- although I do find the warm, greasy feel of it in my mouth somewhat disgusting, and I wonder if it matters if I refrigerate the oil. My first session was soon after rising, on an empty stomach. After one whole minute of vigorous swishing/pulling, I was ready to spit -- and what I spat out was thin and white. I can hardly believe that it takes most folks 15-20 minutes for the oil to change consistency -- and I find it even harder to believe that most people are actually spending this long at it. If that is truly what is required for me to experience any real benefit, then it looks like I’m out of luck -- and my hat is off to those of you who can and do keep at the pulling for this long; you are hardier souls than I. Immediately after spitting out all that I could, I spent a few seconds swishing & pulling with hydrogen peroxide (which I do every day after brushing), and then I looked at my teeth in the mirror – as if one oily minute would have brightened the appearance of my tooth enamel! I drink both coffee and red wine every day, though, and despite brushing, flossing, and rinsing with peroxide daily, my teeth are on the dingy side, but did seem ever so slightly brighter after the oil pulling -- or was it my imagination, and/or wishful thinking? I did a second session later this same day not quite two hours after a meal, and found it much more difficult to keep the oil in my mouth for even the one full minute without gagging, but I managed, and again what I spat was thin and white. Hereafter I plan to try to do at least the one minute every morning for a while, and will post again if I have any interesting results to report." 7/11/2006: Kitty from Clatskanie, OR writes, "We have a group of people doing this procedure on curezone.com http://curezone.com/forums/f.asp?f=738 also www.oilpulling.com has info There isn't a lot of information on it, in english anyway. It's excellent for dental health with results within days if not hours. It's truly amazing!!! One lady had 3 #9 pockets plus numerous 8, 7, 6 and 5s. After Oil Pulling for 5 minutes a day for two months, she went to the dentist with 2 #7 pockets at worst. I've been doing it for a few months now. I had gone to the dentist because of problems with a couple deep pockets. He was going to send me to a periodontist for possle surgery. Then I found out about oil pulling. I had posted on the dental forum at curezone and someone mentioned the oil pulling. After a couple days of doing it my gums felt much better. Now after about 3 months my gums are so much better, my teeth are markedly whiter, my mouth feels clean and gums healthy. My cracked heels are almost cured as well (go figure that). I have less aches and pains. It used to be difficult climbing the stairs and getting up my feet would hurt, but I feel much better all around. It's a crazy thing to do but it's fantastic. It's so simple and inexpensive. I use refined expeller pressed (Hain brand) sunflower oil. I also started adding a few drops of oil of oregano, which has anti bacterial properties. Check us out at curezone! Kitty" 7/24/2006: Molly from California writes, "I first read about this therapy with Andreas Moritz's book "The Amazing Liver and Gallbladder Flush". Something just resonated with me, I don't know what it was exactly. I have been doing it for 5 months, with a group of people, whose testimonials come in every day. We have people experimenting with other oils, and clays. We've added Oregano Oil and Tea Tree Oil to the pulling oil to add more antibacterial effects. Some say that this has cured their psoriasis. It does seem to have an effect on skin, like the healing of cracked heels. The dental testimonies are amazing. I am truly hooked for life on this. For the first time in my life, I'm looking forward to going to the dentist!" 8/2/2006: Patricia from Astoria, NY writes, "Oil pulling has stabilized my overeating, reduced the itching due to eczema. I have also released 5 pounds in 10 days. I started pulling in mid July during a power failure that lasted 9 days. I started with roasted sesame oil which I loved but switched to cold pressed after reading a lot of testimonials on curezone. I pulled in the morning on an empty stomach and my mouth would fill with saliva after 15 minutes. I have since started pulling after 2 pm and after 5minutes the saliva is flowing. I then spit it out and do the pulling for another 15 minutes. I feel energetic. I haven't noticed my teeth getting any whiter. My face has lost its puffiness. There are some pimples that broke out since I began but their time on my face is short lived. I will write an update when new healings come to light. Peace, Patricia" 8/2/2006: Joan from West Los Angeles, CA writes, "I have been pulling now for about 3 weeks. My teeth look a tiny bit whiter, but the main thing is that my sinuses seem to open up in the morning after pulling. My tongue is definitely more pink than its ever been and I don't have quite as intense dark circles under my eyes! This practice is definitely energizing and I think my metabolism is speeding up -- I have lost about 2 lbs eating the same way I always do. I felt very fatigued the first 2 days after pulling with Sunflower Oil, but after that, haven't felt any side effects. I have terrible cracked heels, but so far haven't noticed much change. I think it would take them at least 2 months to heal. At any rate, I love this new practice and don't have any plans to stop." 8/3/2006: Ifra from London writes, "'My face has gone smooth, and looks moisturised, my circles are decreasing, and my eyes, which were like inside my sockets, have started to come out, and look a bit brighter, my double chin, which i have been looking for a good exercise for, is slowly decreasing, but not too much as yet. my metabolism has gone a bit faster, i feel hungry, whereas before i used to just eat, and bored eat, whereas now i actually feel hungry. my tongue which was so cracked up and ugly and yellow, has actually shown a bit of colour, and is now not rough like before, but nice and soft. As yet i am still waiting to see if my cracked feet will heal, but i do feel energized, and healthy feeling. I have only started for 6 weeks now, and i only swish in the mornings, i want to do it 3 times, maybe that's when i will know the cures quickly, i think if someone like me wants quick results then 3 times a day. i would recommend it to everyone in the world, for a precaution against diseases, after all if we don't see anything happening outside of the body, we definitely know the insides are getting cleaned and all the toxins are going and diseases etc." READER Q&A READER QUESTION 11/30/2006: Jason from Austin, TX writes, "I have a question about the oil. I've read you can use any cold-pressed oil, but noone lists what these are besides sesame and sunflower. I use cold pressed olive oil (and I did verify that it is indeed truely cold pressed) in my cooking and have a rather large jug of it. Is this olive oil going to get the same results as the sesame or sunflower oil. I can only find one webpage on olive oil pulling, but the person alternates between a few different oils and I'm not sure if this one is as effective. I did try my first OP yesterday and felt the Herx effect as soon as I spit it out. My second attemp was this morning and again herx effect but not as serious as before. I also find it hard to keep the oil in my mouth for more than 5-10 min, from the taste change during pulling. The pure oil taste good to me. I would hate to buy a seperate oil just for pulling, I rather save some space and use what I got. Let me know the verdict." Ted replies, "Dear Jason: The point in oil pulling and what oils to use is the components of the anti-microbial activities found in the oils itself. The second properties lies in its ability to remove heavy metals, but most oils seem to share this. So most of the issues that we have to look at is the component. Olive oil's anti-microbial activities, especially extra virgin oil is the polyphenols and oleic acid being the major components. The most active anti-microbial properties of sunflower is found in the linoleic acid and the oleic acid. It is therefore, in terms of oil, excluding polyphenols, that sunflower is more wider spectrum in its anti-microbial properties. While on the other end of the spectrum is safflower oil which has the highest amount of linoleic acid. Coconut oil is most unusual, it has monolaurin, or lauric acid, which is considered antiviral rather antibacterial. While fish oils is also known to have antibacterial powers. Often it is the middle chain fats, which is the oleic, linoleic, and lauric component giving the best properties in killing various microbes, bacteria and virus. So it would seem the "verdict" imperfect as it is would be a mixture of coconut oil and sunflower oil. You might ask how about sesame seed oil? Sesame seed oil has both oleic acid and linoleic acid as same as sunflower oil. So theoretically speaking they are of equal in antimicrobials. However, in practice, sesame seeds, at least where I live they use stainless steel rollers to squeeze out the oil and during this process it might acquire some heavy metals. While sunflower, the refined oil anyway are of lower quantities. The herx effect can be eliminated mostly by just adding peppermint oil which will detoxify the toxins that are released as the microbes, or bacteria are killed. Peppermint has a tendency to react with toxins from its menthol component. I suspect camphor also has this ability, but I prefer to use it on the skin instead. How long is not the issue and it is best to minimize the herx so that the body could best respond without creating too much of a problem. So don't force yourself to go to 5, 10 ,or 15 minutes if you are uncomfortable. Start slowly and always do less. If you don't do this, it is my experience that you will quit doing them altogether because of the problems. However, in my opinion, I prefer to add a drop of peppermint oil to the teaspoon of oil. The second way is just to use 1/2 tablespoon of it. The scientist who recommend the dose initially wanted to kill the bacteria, but viruses and fungus are also an issue, but coconut oil would likely handle that better. In some cases, if peppermint oil is not available then mix the oils with a non-fluoridated toothpaste, since most brands do have the peppermint anyway, and the detergent effect of toothpastes also help kill the organism also. In case you are wondering what minerals is best used as mouthwash for anti-cavity, it is molybdenum in form of sodium molybdate that i used against cavity protection. I think oil pulling does more than just kill the microbes, it pulls out the heavy metals and stops them from constantly being recirculated in the body. This I think is the clear advantage rather than the microbe killing power. To that end, I haven't given any study to see which oils helps rid of heavy metal the best, but as far as I know, it would seem cod liver oil and fish oil is clearly the ones that are most well known for metal removal. Autistics with high mercury respond much better with such supplementation. So if you are looking for chelation or removal of heavy metals by oil pulling it would appear that fish oils or cod liver oil is better. Of course, getting them in liquid from for oil pulling is not an easy one since now they all have it in capsules. If you hate to separate oil for just oil pulling then borrow them from the kitchen. Just make sure they are the oils that you need for a specific purpose, whether it be bacteria, fungus, heavy metals or virus. The answer will be different. If you want a general purpose kind and within your pocketbook, then a 50/50 mixture of coconut oil (UNHYDROGENATED) and sunflower oil would likely be the best. Fish oils and cod liver oil, because of the present marketing practices, are way to expensive to do oil pulling. Ted" READER QUESTION 11/30/2006: Jackie from Sioux Falls, SD writes, "I have been "oil pulling" for over a month now, and I generally spit it out after about one minute. At that time it is already a foamy whitish color. Am I still getting the benefits if I do not rinse for the full 20 min.?" Ted replies, "Dear Jackie: For 1 minute? Generally, no. The possible exception is removal of heavy metals in your mouth. You can lessen the time but still not 1 minute, but you must add other things! 1 minutes is quite acceptable if you have a reaction against it as the bacteria dies, it releases the toxins too much for your body to take. The idea of the 20 minutes came from microbiology where if you treat the oils long enough (sunflower oil, but really coconut oil, palm oil, olive oil) often kills most organism during that period. The kill time can be lessened if you were to add tea tree oil one drop (very hot for some) and detoxify and kill (one drop of peppermint oil), but still 1 minutes is not enough, 2-3 minutes I think is the bare minimum for most kills to be effective and this means you must add the peppermint oil and the tea tree oil together - if you can stand it! So yes, you can shorten the time, but you have to add the other oils too. The addition of soap powder (or toothpaste) mixed with it, to the oil pulling will also speed the killing and this might be possible to get closer to 1 minute, but still difficult. It must be recognized that certain oils are more effective in killing. For example if it is candida, then maybe olive oil and tea tree oil. If it is a cold viruses or sore throat from viruses, then it is coconut oil with some soap solution, and/or tea tree oil and/or peppermint. The time should not be fixed since some people cannot take it. The reason is simple: when the organisms get killed, they release a toxin. The toxins can be detoxify or neutralized with the peppermint oil. In case of removal heavy metals, 1-2 minutes is enough. If by chance you experience negative reaction of oil pulling which often happens during the first 3 days, then I often suggest to try only 3-5 minutes. 1 minute will not be enough to kill the organism, the figure is a bit closer to 3 minutes and this is with the tea tree and peppermint oil too. The true deciding factor is really not the benefits you will get it anyway albeit less, it is how you can tolerate the thing! If you can't tolerate doing it for 10 minutes, the optimum is somewhere closer to 5! Most of these problems are the toxins released when they get killed in some instances, the solution remains clear even AFTER 30 minutes. In this instance, much of the problem have to do with LACK of saliva, in which case you must modify by adding water to the mixture. In your case you have plenty of saliva, but that doesn't mean the organisms get killed. While I don't want to get oil pulling into an orthodox protocol, it must be realized that olive oil might be effective against bacteria and fungus, and coconut oil more effective against viruses, while sunflower oil are best overall and is a bit more effective in removal of free heavy metals, again this is just my observations. The deciding factor is you need to know their components and what they are effective against, such as oleic acid (olive oil), lauric acid (coconut oil, and linoleic acid (sunflower oil but also have oleic too). This is why sunflower is generally better. It is high in both linoleic acid and oleic acid. Since many people are not aware that linoleic have antibacterial properties, here is a research which quite related to sunflower oil in the components. See below. Ted Antibacterial activity of linoleic and oleic acids isolated from Helichrysum pedunculatum: a plant used during circumcision rites. Dilika F, Bremner PD, Meyer JJ. Department of Botany, University of Pretoria, Pretoria 0002, South Africa. The antibacterial activity-guided fractionation of the dichloromethane extract of leaves of Helichrysum pedunculatum resulted in the isolation of linoleic and oleic acids. Linoleic acid inhibited the growth of all the Gram-positive bacterial species tested with the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) varying between 0.01 and 1.0 mg/ml. Oleic acid was active against three of the five Gram-positive bacteria at a MIC of 1.0 mg/ml. Both compounds were inactive against the Gram-negative species tested. A synergistic effect between the two fatty acids was observed against Staphylococcus aureus and Micrococcus kristinae. PMID: 10925024 [PubMed - indexed for MEDLINE] READER QUESTION 11/29/2006: Peg writes, "How can anyone just flush with oil for 20 min i did it for 10 and it was very difficult to continue any clues?" Ted replies, "Peg: 10 minutes would be o.k., but next time add the peppermint oil 1 drop to it. It will make it easier for you as this will neutralize the toxins that are released as the microbes get killed, and it makes it easier for you to do it without problems. Ted" READER QUESTION 11/18/2006: Cherokee from San Francisco, CA writes, "I just oil pulled for the first time, for twenty minutes, and the oil was still yellowish upon spitting. I am wondering if perhaps I am a bit less toxic than some? I've been vegetarian for twelve years (i'm 31), don't eat fast food, don't drink soda (or any hf corn syrup), and avoid partially hydrogenated oils at all cost. Any other vegetarians with feedback? Diet has a lot to do with toxicity, so I wonder." Ted replies, "Dear Cherokee: It is still yellow? Since I am getting many complaints on this, I might as well give you a formal proof. Add a sunflower oil to 1/4 full to a test tube. Then add 1/4 of water. Shake it vigorously for one minute. The solution will be milky white regardless. If you put in too little water, say 1/16, the solution will be mostly yellow. The problem is very likely that your mouth lacks saliva or you put too much oil in the mouth in ratio to the saliva being thus generated. When this happens, you need to drink more water (you might be dehydrated) or alkalize your body. Alkalizing will also increase your saliva. Just take one whole freshly squeezed lemon and add baking soda until no fizz, then add water to 1/2 glass. Take this one a day at least. Ted" READER QUESTION 11/13/2006: Alan from London writes, "Hi there, I have amalgam (mercury containing) fillings and was wondering if oil pulling is suitable with these ? Thanks." Ted replies, "Dear Alan: The best solution appears to be to remove the amalgam fillings and replaced them with a non-mercury kind. After you remove it then, oil pulling would be most helpful. If it is not possible, then consider one tablespoon of sunflower oil and peppermint oil. Do it for about 3 times and that should reduce mercury somewhat, but the cause will not be removed. To reduce mercury exposure somewhat, supplementing magnesium should help. Taking plenty of selenium supplements and garlic should also help displace mercury out of your body easier. It is also important to take plenty of granulated lecithin when you eat the food. Since mercury are oils soluble, and removal of oil soluble compounds are difficult a fat emulsifier could help you a lot. This is to be taken one one tablespoon of granulated lecithin with every meal of food you take. Since metals are somewhat acid forming, taking some baking soda regularly should also help. Try a simple 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda to 1/2 glass of water taken at least 3 times a day on an empty stomach. Ted" READER QUESTION 11/13/2006: Janet writes, "I read oil pulling is not recommended for those taking antibiotics before dental work. Should I stop oil pulling since I do this? I have constant canker sores and was hoping this would be a remedy for me. Can I just not oil pull before dental work? I don't understand the harm. Thank you." Ted replies, "Dear Janet: A canker sore remedy is often to acidic body and constant constipation, or minor consitipation where the body has no ready means of getting rid of the toxins. I would prefer you just take baking soda + citric acid 1/4 teaspoon each to 1/2 glass of water and take it 2 times a day, once in the morning and one before bedtime. Monitoring urinary pH is important that you get it within pH of 6-7. Most people with canker sores have urinary pH of just 5-5.9. Eating less fried foods, eating slowly, and less sugar, no potato chips, chocolates and no fruit drinks will help much. Taking some milk of magnesia will help reduce constipation the safest, if the formulation contains no aluminum compound. The reason why it is not done before dental work is the fear of herx effect occuring after dental work. So if you are doing oil pulling presently and you have no problems with this, no herx effect, then you can continue to do so. Adding peppermint oil one drop to one teaspoon can often reduce the Herx effect. Ted" |
